Pin Parvati Pass Trek

 

The Pin Parvati Pass is a mountain pass in Himachal Pradesh, India.It was first crossed in August 1884 by Sir Louis Dane in search of an alternate route to the Spiti valley. This pass connects the fertile and lush Parvati valley on the Kullu side with the Pin valley on the Spiti side.


Description:

It is a popular trekking route today though still rarely visited. This trans-Himalayan trek is the shortest route between the Kullu and Spiti Valleys. Once over the Pin-Parvati pass (5319m), there is a complete change in landscape – the mountain slopes immediately turn barren and rugged. The prevalent culture of the inhabitants also changes from Hinduism on the Kullu side to Buddhism in Spiti.

Further, the cultural charisma takes over the traveller’s mind when he mulls over the ancient Hindu temples and Buddhist monasteries that reflects several myths and legends. The journey passes through several small hamlets, gushing streams, thick alpine forest, wild life, pristine lakes, glaciers and cattle grazing farms. Walking along the mountains, crossing downhill, snowfield areas, unusual natural rocky bridges, Himalayan brown bears and wild small colorful flowers builds an ever unforgettable flash.

Tour Route: Delhi – Bhuntur – Manikaran – Barsheni – Kheerganga – Tunda bhuj – Thakur Kuan – Odi Thatch – Mantalai lake – Base of Pin Pass camp 1 – campsite over Pin paas – Mud – Kibber – Manali – Delhi.

Trek Route: Barsheni – Kheerganga – Tunda bhuj – Thakur Kuan – Odi Thatch – Mantalai lake – Base of Pin Pass camp 1 – campsite over Pin paas – Mud.

Tour Plan:

Day 1st :Delhi to Barsheni – Will Board a tempo traveler for Barsheni at 7pm.

Day 2nd :-Barshani to Kheerganga( 2850 mt) 12 kms. 7-9 hrs –   walk through deep forest , meadows, water fall on the way. Kheerganga has hot water springs.

Day 3rd : kheerganga to Thunda bhuj (3282 Mt). 12 kms. 7-9 hrs  – Trek commences through deep forest, flowers strewn  meadows. Walk on mule tracks, climb is steep &  slow.

Day 4th : Thunda bhuj to Dibinala  (3500 Mt)-.9 kmr.5-7 hrs – walk through meadows , flower valley above tree line, moderate walk.

Day 5th : Dibinala to Pandupul ( 3600 Mt). 7Kmr. 3/5 hrs -Gradual climb through meadows .The area is full of medicinal plants & flowers. Pandupul has a natural rock bridge to cross the river.

Day 6th : Pandupul to Thakurkuan( 3800Mt). 10 kmr.5-7hrs -Gradual climb through meadows. One encounters  nomadic sheperds on the way &their traditional huts. River flows by the trek path.

Day 7th : Thakurkuan to Mantalai( 4100 Mt).8 kmr.3-5 hrs – Gradual climb through meadows .Mantalai  has a lake from where you see Mantalai glacier, Source of Parvati river.Night camp at Mantalai.

Day 9th : Mantlai to High camp 2  _( 4700Mt).7kms.7hrs – Steep Climb through inhospitable terrain . High camp 2  serves as  a base for pin pass  splendid view  of Hamta peak  on one side &  Pin valley of Spiti on other .

Day 10th : High camp 2 to Pin pass  High camp 1-7 kms. 5 hrs –  Steep climb to pin pass, walk over the snow fields of the pass & then climb down to high  camp1of Pin valley ,Passing pin river ,look out for Snow leopards, Ibex ,Musk deer .

Day 11th : Mud village 10 kms. 7hrs  – Walk through meadows, cold desert. Enjoy land scapes of Spiti to Mud  village perched on hill side.

Day 12th : Mud to  Kaza – 50 Km. Drive to kaza village, on the way see kee monastery, Kaza Village.
